Chiayi City Government and Yunlin County Government have decided to collaborate to support domestic cabbages by taking actions to help the farmers. During the press taking place at the Chiayi City Hall today, they made the announcement of supporting the farmers by exhibiting three trucks loaded with cabbages from Yunlin County. Mayor Ming-hui Huang calls for making orders for the 1,000 boxes of Yunlin local cabbages (approx. 20,000kg) due to the recent low price, and the cabbages were sold in no time. Thanks to County Mayor Li-shan Zhang for providing the cabbages, Chiayi City is able to take actions to support the farmers.

Huang indicates that the Yun-Chia-Nan area is the grain storage of Taiwan and it used to be rich during the time of agriculture being the mainstay of the economy. Everyone should support the farmers by purchasing those fresh and healthy cabbages during this period of time when the price is low. She also welcomes Zhang to visit Chiayi City to feel the warmth and hospitality of the Chiayi local.

Huang says that cabbages play an essential role in our cuisines they’re pretty common. Cabbages are the indispensable part of the gastronomy. Huang suggests people can prepare a healthy family supper out of cabbages.

Zhang states that the continual cold waves from the end of the last year have caused the increasing of the cabbage price and the farming area, but the price has been decreasing due to the pandemic and the fall of the market demand in addition to the overly high yield caused by the good weather. Yunlin County Government has been working with groups for farmers within the county and different companies to sell the cabbages. Cabbages weighing over 584 tons were sold. Thanks to Huang and Chiayi City Government, the farmers can actually meet the balance and have basic incomes.

The cabbage is the king of vegetables. It contains rich vitamin B complex, vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin U, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and organic acid. The price is rather promising because of the recent stable weather. It’s a good timing to make dishes out of cabbages and taste their exquisite flavor.
