The Premier Tseng-chang Su Promised to Cover Expenses on the Upgrade of Traditional Markets and Entrusted the Secretary-General of Exercise Yuan to Assist Chiayi City on the Infrastructure with the Budget of NT $57.45 Billion

Premier Tseng-chang Su went to Chiayi City Meat Market today along with Mayor Ming-hui Huang, Legislator Mei-hui Wang, Legislator Yu-shia Wen and a few city councilors to listen to the presentation given by the Council of Agriculture and to understand the whole processing line of the market. Huang strived for the subsidy from the Central Government to cover the whole expense on the update of the meat market's cold chain and of other traditional markets. Huang even explained the essential role Chiayi City plays in the Southwest of Taiwan to Su in favor of the budget of NT $57.45 billion for culture development, transportation and infrastructure of Chiayi City to be supported by Executive Yuan.

The Public Stadium in the West District which Su came to Chiayi City for the other day is currently in the phase of tender. Chiayi City is in need of the upgrade on meat processing facilities under the impacts of African swine fever and the importation of pork that contains ractopamine. Meanwhile, the update on traditional markets also demands the subsidy from the Central Government.

In addition to the traditional markets in Chiayi City, Huang also told Su that Chiayi City needed help from the Central with different areas including culture and education. Chiayi City still requires NT $57.45 billion for the future construction. The cultural development requires NT $3.35 billion, covering NT $1.85 billion for the Chiayi City Library and NT $1.3 billion for the renovation of Chiayi Old Tobacco Factory. The city also requires NT $48.9 billion for transportation, covering NT $23.9 billion for the elevated railway project and NT $25 billion for the light rail transit from Chiayi HSR Station to Chiayi Railway Station. The infrastructure requires NT $5.2 billion, covering the sewage system, public parks, road construction and construction for green areas. Huang also indicated to Su that Chiayi HSR Station is the HSR station that doesn't connect to a railway station through railway.

Su decided to cover the whole expense on the upgrade in Chiayi City Meat Market after listening to the presentation to resolve the issues on cold chain and wastewater. The upgrade of other traditional markets requires the assistance of the Council of Agriculture.

In terms of the infrastructure of Chiayi City, Su has entrusted Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan to organize and assist the city. The Central would help as much as possible as long as the local governments strive for the benefits of their own administrative divisions, Su said.

During the interview by the media, Huang showed gratitude towards Su the Premier and other guests for the promise to cover the expense on the upgrade of the facilities and the cold chain in the meat market. The facilities of other traditional markets in Chiayi City will also be upgraded. Market goers can make sure to get safe products of quality.

Chiayi City Meat Market was founded in on October 4 in the year 1986, verified by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The market started selling pigs from on June 11 in 1990 and added the pig butchery in November of the year 1994. The pig trading number of the year is up to 215,749 and the number of pigs butchered is 125,762.

The meat market will be thoroughly modernized and get the HACCP verification in the future by the year, including the cold chain, the processing line, and the wastewater treatment. Chiayi City will be the first city in the Yun-Chia-Nan area which has a mest market that has HACCP and cold chain verification. The pig trading number is estimated to reach 300 thousand and the number of pigs butchered 150 thousand. The number of cows butchered will have a ten times growth that goes up to 600 a day, which equals 210 thousand a year.
