The results of the survey on the satisfaction towards mayors and happy cities in 2021 conducted by CommonWealth Magazine have come out today. Ming-hui Huang was placed 2nd out of 21 mayors in Taiwan, and Chiayi City was placed 1st on governance for non-special municipalities. The overall performance of Chiayi City scored higher than any other city or county. Moreover, Huang was placed 3rd in the poll on mayor’s performance of pandemic control.

Chiayi City won the first place in “Happy Taiwan – Survey on the Happiness of Cities and Counties in 2020” conducted by Economy Daily News. Huang made a breakthrough from being placed 8th last year to 2nd this year in the poll on the satisfaction towards mayors and happy cities. Chiayi City was placed 1st on governance for non-special municipalities which demonstrates competitiveness. Huang is thankful for the support of the citizens and the hard work of the City Government. The construction during the pandemic didn’t cease to continue, which included the construction of underground cord in Wenhua Night Market, the forest themed playground in Central Square, and the alteration of Lushan Bridge. The City Government will work on economic stimulus such as the $2,000 shopping cash giveaway in October, the shopping festival in November, and the Design Expo along with the light art exhibition in December.

Furthermore, Mayor Huang was placed 3rd in the poll on mayor’s performance of pandemic control. The City Government has been planning on providing a friendly environment for vaccination to raise the coverage since the outbreak. Each detail for the vaccination was treated cautiously and plotted out by integrating public and private resources. The vaccine coverage in Chiayi City had reached up to 74.95% by October 17.

Placed 2nd, Huang is grateful for every one of the citizens. “We never let the guard down during the pandemic and we were able to overcome the challenges thanks to the citizen’s cooperation,” said Huang. “The City Government is the power that leads Chiayi City move forward like the engine of a car, and we will strive to meet the needs of the citizens during the pandemic.”

CommonWealth Magazine rolled out the annual survey on cities and counties in the year of 2003. The survey consists of 2 parts: the satisfaction towards mayors and happy cities. The former is implemented through phone polling to the citizens and questionnaire to experts on governance, and the latter is evaluated by the performance of economy, environment, governance, education and social welfare.
