Chiayi City Font – A Gift to the World from Chiayi City
Words convey the thoughts between people, and the font contains the strong feelings behind. Chiayi City has created the 1st city-exclusive font in Taiwan. The culture within the city is able to display though words. Words seep into our daily life to make each corner we reach the aesthetics.
The team of type design and promotion from the young generation, justfont, along with Kuo-rong Tseng the designer created the 1st city-exclusive font in Taiwan for Chiayi City. Starting with the rich history of Chiayi City, the design developed from handwritten scripts to display the interior of the city with a hint of European type design. The strokes of characters and letters sketch out the pride of Chiayi City.
Chiayi City Font is firm but flexible: showing the warm and kind maturity of Chiayi City. The structure is based on the proportion of classic typefaces to reflect the maturity of the city. Adapted from the handwriting of the calligrapher Edward Johson, Chiayi City Font flows with warms to represent the hospitality of the citizens. Thickness of the strokes is specially designed to pair with Chinese characters in Source Han Sans. It can be applied to pointers and titles. The stylish font is easily recognized to immerse into our daily life.
Apart from the alphabet and Arabic numerals, Chiayi City Font also includes the phonetic alphabets for Taiwanese, Hakka, romanization, indigenous languages and Vietnamese. The design meets the needs of diverse users in Taiwan. It is a font for us to communicate with the world, which allows the world to notice Chiayi.
The city-exclusive font is a breakthrough in Taiwan and a symbol to show the core spirit of Chiayi City. Chiayi City Font is free for download from around the world. People are welcome to use it to have a taste of the warmth of Chiayi City – Small City, Big Change.
